Gaana tops audio streaming charts Gaana, themusic streaming service owned by Times Internet, has emerged as the leader in the category with a 30 pc market share in January, according to OTT Audience Measurement Insights, a passive, con- tinuous audiencemeasurement service. Gaana was followed by JioSaavn (24 pc), Wynk and Spotify (15 pc each), and Google PlayMusic (10 pc). All other music services, like Amazon Prime Music and YouTubeMusic, put together had a 7 pcmarket share. The OTT audience measurement service has been launched by WPP-owned media measurement plat- form Kantar and audience measurement technology company VTION. The report is based on data collected from more than 9,000 mobile users in the country's top nine cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Lucknow/Kanpur). It covered male & female users aged 18 years and above. Gaana's top markets in January were Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, while for JioSaavn, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow/Kanpur and Mumbai were the core markets. Listeners spent 63 minutes per day on Gaana, 49 minutes on Jio Saavn and 40 min- utes and 39 minutes per day on Google Play Music and Wynk, respectively. [ News Bytes ] 59 www.telecomlive.com TikTok parent ByteDance woos India's Gen Z with Resso ByteDance, which runs short-video platform TikTok, has launched a new music streaming service 'Resso' to take on competitors like Gaana, JioSaavn and Spotify in the Indianmarket. Resso , whi ch ca l l s itself the world's first social music streaming app, is targeted at 18-24 year olds. For accessing features like downloadable con- tent, unlimited skips and high-quality audio, users will need to upgrade to a monthly premium sub- scription of Rs 99 for Android and Rs 119 for iOS. The basic app is free for users. Sun Direct plans capex of Rs 300-400 cr per fiscal over the medium term SunDirect has planned a capex of Rs 300-400 cr p e r f i s c a l o v e r t h e medium term. The com- pany expects cash accrual of over Rs 500 cr per fiscal in 2020 and 2021. Revenue rose to Rs 1,602 cr on the back strong subscriber addition com- pared toRs 1,367 cr. This region con- tributes around 90 pc of the total subscriber base. However, the company has made efforts to widen its geographic reach, by launching services in Maharashtra, Odisha and West Bengal, last year. Sun TV Network will launch its Marathi GEC Sun Marathi once its Bengali GEC Sun Bangla breaks even. Sun Bangla was launched on Febru- ary 3, 2019. Viacom18 launches Voot Select to take on Netflix, Hotstar Media firm Viacom18 has launched a subscrip- tion-based streaming service 'Voot Select' for Indian audiences. The service which will com- petewithNetflix, Amazon Prime Video as well as offerings from Star India (Hotstar) and Zee (Zee5) - has been priced at Rs 99 a month and Rs 999 for annual subscription.
