CII Summit www.telecomlive.com 49 TelecomLIVE April 2024 The future is going to revolve around disruptive and sustainable. It looks like they are pulling in oppo- site direction. The challenges of the future for the society including sustainable development will not be satisfied by the business as usual. So, it's disruptive because sustainable development is an oxymoron because sustainability pulls in one direction and the idea of development pulls in another direction. Now, to harmonize these two aspects and not to worry about the turn of the century definition of development through economic consumption are coming from Chicago school of business. These two aspects cannot be pulled together unless there were disrup- tive changes in our thinking about how we organise our society, con- sumption and technology. Technology is a small aspect because there is no technological f i x t h a t w i l l t a k e c a r e o f sustainability in the long run. When I was with the government, three big missions were launched. The first one was supercomputing mission of Rs 4,500 crore worth, cyber physical systems which has 25 hubs worth of Rs 4,000 crore across the country. Each of these hubs are totally independent and empowered to fund start-up com- panies and it's a huge opportunity. Third mission is about quantum computing which is up and coming including quantum IoT. This mis- sion which is coming is worth of Rs 6,000 crore and this will allow industry to participate as an equal partner. The aspect is about health which is the universal and holistic health in which IoT plays a big role because business as usual will not take care of universal health. Uni- versal healthmeans reaching to the last personwith the health services. Therefore, we have to be very dis- ruptive, IoT is a big part of it w e a t h e r y o u t a l k a b o u t telemedicine, remote sensors, surgery etc. Another, aspect is of energy which includes green energy, renewable energy where IoTplays a big role. The future is about convergence of the communication, computing at the edge, making intelligent decision autonomous through AI, machine learning, having autono- mous sensors which are processing information at the edge and mak- ing decision and autonomous action through actuator. So, all of future is a bundle of these five things communication, computing, making decision based on big data and acting on those decision auton- omously. Need to have enough AI mod- els be able to counter the AI based attacks Alok Gupta, Pyramid Cyber Security & Forensics IoT devices itself are growing almost $2 billion every year. It's seven times the human population and it's going to grow further. From the data perspective 70 trillion gigabits of data is generated by IoT devices every year which is humon- gous. IoT is going to have lot of impact in the coming time. Climate or GreenTech is some- thing where lot of action is going to happen on the IoT side. The 70 trillion gigabytes of the data that we are generating, the data centre that are churning out that data are actu- ally consuming whole lot of energy. This energy needs to be cancelled out somewhere or substituted somewhere, GreenTech will come very handy. It's not only going to happen in manufacturing, industry but also at the home everywhere. So, IoT is going to be a major con- tributor to ensure that GreenTech is under control. Another area where there will be lot of opportunity in India is healthcare. Right from IoT devices getting into the hospitals, the homes and everything will lead to lots of opportunity that are coming in. I have concerns around three areas: cyber security because you have humongous devices which increases the surface area for the attack. Second is the data privacy I have also brought SWAN by connecting all 193 panchayats to the block and state headquarter. We know that connectivity is a challenge because of the hostile weather condition. With the advent of the technology, the moment you land up in Leh you have 5G connec- tivity in all headquarters and all through the national highways. We want Galwan also to have the con- nectivity for the soldiers who are posted there and already had the telephone connectivity at Siachen. We will be coming with EMC 2.0 in Ladakh and also looking for some anchor unit. We are already in talks with many companies because it is very conducive as far as weather is concerned like Europe for the electronic manufac- turing and data center. We will come in a big way and strategically also help our nation to counter lot of challenges which are interna- tionally coming to us. So, EMC 2.0 is going to come in a big way and definitely IoT will have perfect landing platform as far as place is concerned. Future is a bundle of commu- nication, computing, making decision based on big data and acting on those decision autonomously Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Indian National Science Academy The whole lot of communication in the future would be between machines. When you talk about the spectrum, speed and the reliability of communication, it has nothing do with human to human commu- nication. I was talking to somebody from top scientific publication house globally, the future publica- tion will be machine writing, doing research, writing paper, reading paper and machine telling their human owner about what they need to know and don't need to know because of the overwhelming amount of data and information is available out there. So, whole lot of impact of the technology is going to be there.
