TelecomLive April 2024

CII Summit www.telecomlive.com 52 TelecomLIVE April 2024 aspects like on the device side lot can happen on making the IoT devices lot more cost effective. Lots of development is happening at the edge side and trying to infuse IoT in the edge now and seeing these architecture slowly develop having data being acquired from assets, not all data need to go to cloud and can have an edge solution. Now, lot of AI is being built into the edge devices. We are seeing issues around regulation, data security, cyber regulations are also barriers pre- venting implementation from scal- ing if you are talking from the point of viewof global deployment. When I was working with AT&T and when a company wants to deploy IoT at a global scale we have to be cognizant of every company regulation. For example: if you want to install a global SIM into a device connecting to an asset, there are countries which don't allowpermanent roam- ing like Brazil etc. In China, data has to be localized. Each country has its own challenges. There are even issues around certification of devices where it is mandatory for every IoT device to be certifies by various bodies. The other issues is scaling from lab to market, but when you really want to accelerate IoT innovation, ecosystemand partnership become important. It really calls for indus- try to work with government to make sure that whatever is being deployed is in compliance with policies. Also, need to work with academia and startups. There is lot of potential that can be used from start-up. While there is a need for implementation scale but want to learnwhat are the success stories. Use of AI enabled CCTV cam- eras has increased crime rate detection up to 60-70 per cent in smart cities MA Johar, CP PLUS The talk of IoT without the use of CCTV camera, it's basically a pas- sive observer. Now, with the addi- tion of IoT it becomes a proactive observer in the security era. The journey of the CCTV camera for just being there to becoming a necessity that journey and evolution of this industry is because of the IoT. The network of camera just not only detect the suspicious person but also communicate in the real time and basically see the person where it's going and give coordinates to the responders. It means seating at the control room you can see what is suspicious around, who is the suspicious around that it can com- municate to the control room and track down that suspicious person. It is the IoT for the CCTV camera. The impact on the industry is that we can say that God is watch- ing everyone. We can basically watch each and every move and communicate to the control room that's what IoT means to the CCTV business. For example: When we were inaugurating the Ludhiana Smart city, we showed reading the number plate at the road and hav- ing a data base of stolen number plates, vehicles running with acci- dent and can be caught where the vehicle is. We have done 15 smart cities as of now and the crime rate detection has increased up to 60-70 per cent in those cities that is where we are working on. Talking about smart schools which are coming, we have got 140,000 camera installed at Delhi schools. We have given parent the leverage that they can see the class- room for 10 minutes in a day. We can have online attendance and with face recognition, the smart count. In water management, if some- body touches the fan, it can be detected by the motion sensor or by installing PTC cameraswhen some- body enters the premises it cap- tures all the movement. Earlier we use to sell 1,000 cameras a month but now we are selling 1.2 million cameras in a month. We are pro- ducing everything in India with a factory capacity of 3 million cam- era. So, this is how India is pro- gressing in CCTV market. And it is all because of IoT. we are entering fourth revolution. Even moving beyond it into an intelligent age. Data and compute will be the foundation of this intelli- gent age and as business, individu- als be prepared for it and build the foundation to thrive into this new ecosystem. Over the years, IoT projects has moved to pilots but have- n't seen the scale Sunil David, CII IoT Summit We have seen the growth of IoT happening over the years in India. The projects have moved to pilots but haven't seen the scale and the real value will come from the scale only. The reasons are very different why we haven't seen these projects scale whether you see from the consumer perspective or enterprise perspective. Even globally when you talk about the scale where the real value come from that has been stunted. There are various reasons for it. For example, five years back a water purifier company wanted to infuse IoT into their purifier. They were looking at options like embed- ded IoT or offer it as a one-time service and slowly start it as a ser- vice. Eventually, they infused the IoT water purifier and made a con- nected purifier. Later themanaging director of that company joined LivePure and started that service. Today, LivePure water as a service business and whole concept is based on the volume sensor infused into the water purifier and the model is you don't buy the purifier outright but actually pay based on consumption of water. So, their water as a service business has grown 77 per cent in the Q3 com- pared to the previous quarter. This is a good example how the manu- facturer of a water purifier has leveraged the power of IoT and innovated around the business model to offer a service. We have not seen innovation like this happening in India. When you look at the innovation and develop- ment of IoT there are multiple
