[ News Bytes ] 74 India PC market falls 6.6 pc to 13.9 mn units in 2023: IDC The India PC market, including desktops, note- books andworkstations, registered a 6.6 pc yoy decline in shipments to 13.9 mn units in 2023, according to an IDC report. However, artificial intelligence (AI) PC launches in the second half of the year may boost the market in 2025, as per IDC. The total market rebounded in the second half (2H23) with a 12.9 pc yoy growth after a weak first half. The market grew 11.4 pc yoy in Q4 2023 as both desktops and notebooks grew by 16.8 pc and 9.9 pc in the quarter, respectively. HP Inc led themarket with a volume share of 31.5 pc in 2023 as it topped the charts in both the commercial and consumer segments, followed by Lenovo with a share of 16.7 pc, while Dell Technologies stood third with a share of 15.5 pc as it witnessed a steep decline of 24.5 pc yoy in 2023. Acer Group stood in fourth position with a share of 12.3 pc as it grew by 16.1 pc yoy in 2023, while Asus held fifth position with a share of 7.9 pc despite a yoy growth of 8.6 pc. In 2023, the consumer segment declined by 3.1 pc yoy and the commercial segment declined by 9.7 pc yoy due to reduced demand from enterprises. However, www.telecomlive.com t h e e d u c a t i o n a n d government segments were strong in 2023, growing by 80.5 pc and 18 pc, respectively. Both the consumer and commer- cial segments fared much better in 4Q23, growing annually by 19.3 pc and 5.3 pc, respectively. On the other hand, the tablet market, including detachable and slates, fell 25 pc yoy to 4.01 mn units in 2023. Samsung ranked first in the market with a volume share of 39.5 pc, despite its shipments falling 34.7 pc yoy in 2023. Lenovo, in the second spot , saw i t s shipments slide 38.6 pc yoy and it held a share of 14.3 pc. Apple stood third with a share of 13.9 pc as it wi tnessed an annua l decline of 11.1 pc, accord- ing to IDC's data. Acer Group held the fourth position behind Apple with a share of 7.3 pc, while Realme held the fifth position with a share of 6.8 pc as it witnessed a yoy growth of 9.5 pc – the only brand among top five to log an annual growth. The consumer seg- ment grew by 1.9 pc yoy, bu t t h e c omme r c i a l segment declined sharply by 42.3 pc yoy as a few government deals were delayed or cancelled. The e d u c a t i o n s e g m e n t declined by 53.7 pc yoy and SMBs segment fell by 25.9 pc yoy, as per IDC. This acquisition of Aggne will strengthen Wi pr o ' s compe t i t i ve advantage in the insur- ance sector - particularly in the property & casualty (P&C) insurance space. Aggne's Swift IPs com- bined with Wipro's wider offerings will position it as an end-to-end player in the P&C insurance space. Over the last two years, Wipro made around four o t h e r a c q u i s i t i o n s inc luding i t s bi gges t acquisition with London- headquartered business and technology manage- ment consultancy firm Capco for $1.45 bn. Other buyouts include Rizing, CAS in April 2022 and Edgile inDecember 2021. CtrlS to invest Rs 4,000 cr in Chennai data center park, across phases CtrlS Datacenters Ltd, Asia's largest Rated-4 data center operator, has unveiled their upcoming d a t a c e n t e r p a r k i n Chennai - their fifth hyperscale Datacentre Campus in India follow- ing Mumbai, Hyderabad, Noida and Bangalore. CtrlS Datacenters will invest Rs 4,000 cr in the Chennai Datacentre Park, across phases. T h e c o m p a n y i s expected to create about 500 direct jobs and over 9 , 000 i nd i r ec t j obs .
